It is still sometimes tough. He still struggles. But at least I understand what's going on.I should have quoted you earlier. I grew up like your hubby and only remember one brief exchange of words between my parents. Never really saw them discuss or fight at all, so when I got married it was just like you said. My parents were and are awesome, but I wish they would have shared more about relationships and finances...
I know why his parents are the way they are. Adult children of alcoholics have a series of problems all of their own, and both his mom's and dad's families were troubled. Avoiding conflict is ingrained. I have similar problems with my own family. But even when we visit his mom, we have to be careful not to get into one of our spirited discussions. She always thinks we are fighting and almost runs away. It makes me sad.
