Not really related to the forum guidelines, but I would like to point out that there has been an update to the Crowd Pleaser award rules:
  • Winners of the Crowd Pleaser award will now be eligible for nomination again after one year (this is up from six months and is retroactive.)
The whole staff was pretty much in agreement that we'd like to see more people winning the award, rather than the same few people winning over and over again. We feel that increasing the lockout from six months to one year is the best way to accomplish that. If you have any questions or thoughts on this rule change, or any other Crowd Pleaser award rules, please feel free to voice them in this thread.

The full Crowd Pleaser award rules can be viewed here.

I'm moving this discussion here because the daily thread isn't really an appropriate place for it.

Or maybe I'm just saying It's night crew
I post the same amount in the day, and if you say

then why bother at night, not more then at night?

no banworthy content atm (which I saw today but was {notbanned}
everyone's chill fam

no HITS have been submitted in a WHILE
The reason that I'm saying something now, at night, instead of earlier in the day is because it hasn't been as much of a problem during the day lately. There's typically a lot more HIT posting and HIT discussion going on during peak hours that it kind of balances itself out. At night, when there's not as much HIT discussion going on , it becomes much more noticeable. Keep in mind, I'm not talking about off-topic discussion in general. I'm talking specifically about spam posts. Constant posting of gifs, videos, comments, etc that have no context or relevance to anything going on in the thread. They're senseless posts that serve no real purpose. And, again, I'm not saying it needs to be cut out completely. I do it from time to time, as well as many others. But if like half your posts include that sort of content, then it needs to be dialed back a bit.

Do I report this then?
Do I report smileys with princesses and cup cake eating? What is the medium? Relevance to other users, how they act, etc. I do not understand the acceptable style of posting and many others do not apparently; so I want to be sure I am ok.
pizza gifs, food discussion

edit:etc,etc

Look, I'm not trying to come down hard on this or anything. I just made a suggestion that I would like it toned down a little. This has been a growing issue over the last couple weeks, and it has been coming from a lot of different members. Enough so, that the forum culture is starting to shift in a direction that isn't what we had in mind for this forum.

Yes, there have been problems during the day also. We're working on addressing that, just like how we're working on addressing things in the evening. But I don't think this is something that requires us to come down hard on. Reporting/editing posts shouldn't even be necessary. We're all adults and perfectly capable of maintaining some level of responsibility over the content that we post. So, we the staff would just like to make the suggestion that we think the spam posts are becoming a little excessive and we would like them toned down, and we hope that everyone else can see and understand where we're coming from.

I think what we're conveying here is fair. As Aveline said, we're working on addressing the issues during the day, also.

It is very fair, I would just like to see it implemented and enforced by all

edit: and I understand you are trying, all I can do is wait and see and accept it either way or GTFO.

I think it's also important to understand that we have to start somewhere and it's a starting point and it's not going to be perfect to start with, or ever. Reminding people of the purpose of the work thread and asking them to tone down the spam posts will take a series of PMs and maybe some reminders. It's not going to be instant. I think it would be helpful to keep that in mind as we're working on this.

I also think some of the text from our Guidelines particularly speaks to this: "Help us influence the future of this community by choosing to engage in conversations that make this forum an interesting and helpful place to be — and avoiding those that do not."

Not sure I agree with this when there are a few that post everything that HITs their HS, sight unseen.
sure, but its not that hard to pick a few regulars to see what the post and what they talk about. If someone can't tell the difference between someone posting good hits and someone post junk, then that person probably won't enjoy turkng anyway.

If I post every HIT that pops up I am 100% guaranteed to post good HITs. People might even vote me some monthly award. New people see that I have some fancy award and do the HITs I post, good and bad. New person gets burned. How is that helping?

I genuinely appreciate people who are trying to be helpful and certainly don't mean this in a rude way, but I've never seen the point of posting everything that pops up.

I have a couple different reasons I post everything with an okay-ish (or better) TO. I know that i miss things, because refresh falls wrong, or I look away or whatever and I'm assuming that happens to others as well. I might post something that they missed and they post something that I missed. Not everything I post is a gem, turk just doesn't always work in my favor. If it's super terrible, I'll go back and edit it out, but if it's not super terrible it's still something someone else might not have caught based on how their scrapers are set up. 27 eyes watching scraper is a lot better than just my two.

I lost my train of thought, but hopefully that made sense.

There are several reasons, actually.

One of our main goals as a forum is to attract new turkers so we can continue to grow. New turkers often aren't all that confident with finding their own HITs, so they tend to go where they can find HITs that have been vetted by others. It doesn't necessarily mean that they need to be given a completion time for everything, but just being told that "hey, this looks good" can be a big help.

Also, having a lot of HITs posted in the daily thread tends to keep us on topic. When people stop posting HITs, or aren't posting as many, they tend to start talking about other things. That's fine for a bit, but it can often go on for very long periods of time. That looks terrible to anyone that may be trying to decide whether or not they'd like to join the forum. We often start spamming HITs to try to get people back on topic when there's been a major thread derailment and it works. It gets people talking about work, again.

Another thing is that it helps to advertise our forum. We've had new members join in the past that said they just came here because they saw that most of the HITs that were showing up on HIT Grabber had been coming from here.

Of course, all of the reasons that I listed have to do with bringing in people that are newer turkers. More experienced people may look at the HIT spam in the threads and consider it unnecessary, but there are plenty of people that do appreciate it. And, in time, we hope that those people will become more comfortable with finding their own HITs and start contributing some of their own. It's just a great way for us to continue to grow as a forum, I think. It also cuts down on the "this forum sucks, where are the HITs?" posts that tend to pop up on reddit from time to time.

I think the complaint is the people who post LITERALLY everything that comes up on their TM/HS. Everything.

As long as you self-filter enough to say "Alright, there's really no one who would want to do this hit, it pays 3 dollars an hour and requires you to write the entire text of the Communist Manifesto without any e's", it's much less of an issue. At least for me.

Are people spamming those types of HITs?
