Hello,

I want to address my feelings about the Chat thread vs. Work Thread.

I personally feel like the chat thread is unnecessary. I like the community feel of the work thread. I feel like it is well balanced between work talk and chit chat.
If people only want to see hits, they could go into grind mode. If I just wanted to see hits posted I could stare at my HF all day.
When there isn't much work up, we do tend to just banter and chat, but it helps us to learn about each other and become friends
I would go insane without the friendly banter I find on the work thread. Sometimes it is the only adult conversation I get to have in a day.
Now you may ask, "Why not just keep both thread open?" Good question. The answer at least for me is screen real estate. I work on a laptop and don't have much room to open a lot of windows or tabs.

I may be the only person who feels this way, and if so please feel free to ignore this. I will just adjust and learn to live with it.

I also want to thank the mods and admins for all of their hard work. They are trying to work and deal with the lives and everything else. This forum is just a project/ labor of love for them. They do it out of the kindness of their hearts and for the enjoyment of it.
I really really appreciate it. I love having this place to come to make my day less boring and to learn. I have learned so many things on this forum and would love to continue to give back!
I came here to state exactly what Squatty @Squatty has said. Of course, she has beat me to the punch :p

But she is saying what a lot of us are thinking. I also Turk on a laptop and have tried opening up different threads, but screen space is a big priority. I rather enjoy the banter displayed throughout the day, and I have never had a problem weeding through the chat to find work. I think that the post about regulating chat really threw a lot of people off and really discouraged some people from posting. That's not cool. A lot of us turk from home full time and this is our only opportunity to interact with people and have fun.

You mentioned that new members will be put off by the dialogue exchanged. I think on the contrary. I posted because I saw a community that was more than just a dead working thread with no emotion. People make friendships here. It's so cool. I feel connected with others. We learn about each other. And before you point me to other threads, again realize that most people will only have one thread open throughout the day. I don't think I've ever been so overwhelmed with posts that I've been annoyed at the situation. What makes MTC so great is that we feel connected to each other. I mean, c'mon, we just had the first forum wedding!!!! If you discouraged chat, no way that would've happened. People come here because they want interaction. They want to connect. It's human nature. It might not make sense to people who literally have an entire family to interact with, but to those of us that have only ourselves, this forum is a lifesaver. Please don't take that away from us.

And also, please don't take this as an attack, it's not. It's more like putting yourselves in our shoes. I came here because I wanted interaction. And now you're scaring people away. They come because it's cool to come here and express yourself.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Disagree about the new members. Some people may sign up for the social aspect. But first they want to get on their feet and get started. We all know this is alot of work and frustrating. Ill see new people try to blend in chat and ask questions and it gets drowned out quickly. And the other parts of the forum can be a barren wasteland at times. So they ask the questions in work thread.

Personally, some of the banter in the main thread gets completely ridiculous at times, and I know there are others that feel the same way. At the same time, it's kind of like a disaster you can't look away from, so everyone kind of gets involved. I think the forum could do better at balancing when it gets out of hand. A part of me wants to say, that the mods are too nice sometimes to actually tell people to drop it, but it's really awkward to tell people to drop what is basically a joke conversation.

For me, the Music Room is my place to aside from the work thread/mturk, and I don't think the chat thread is unnecessary. It should be there for the people who feel they need it, if the music room or IRC isn't their thing.

Very good points! Thank you for sharing your opinion.

Just gonna throw this in there as I can see it's been mentioned multiple times, but I agree that some people definitely post pretty much anything they see to rack up those points for hit poster. That being said it's on each person to, at the very least, verify hits with TO (when available). But less trash to pick through is always nice.

so i guess i will repeat what i said in the daily thread: this place is very clique-ish. to go further i will say that it seems like the awards are just recycled between the same people every month and i'm sure i'm not the only member who finds it frustrating

Regarding the awards, it's fully up to the community who wins. For Crowd Pleaser, nominations are fully open and so is voting. For HIT Poster, the members who post the most HITs are up for a community vote so the community picks that winner, too. If there's a feeling that the same people are winning, then the community should be nominating some people who haven't won before, and voting for people who haven't won before.

I can sort of understand the hit poster. But Crowd pleaser if you go back through it, it is consistently the same people unless a newbie joins and talks a lot. But pretty much every person that is on the list is always on the list. I don't think throwing some random name into the list will get them anywhere. Just my opinion.

Then maybe it'd be good for members to intentionally nominate someone that hasn't been nominated before when nominations come up next month. :)

I feel there should be an award made just for the people who report times for HITs. It is one thing to post multiple HITs every day, and a completely different thing to actually do them.

ok, sorry but i didn't ask how the awards are awarded. maybe people who win awards shouldn't be eligible to win again so soon

I love when people post times. That'd be a good reason to nominate someone for Crowd Pleaser.

We did 6 months for HIT Poster because because the monetary award is half of what Crowd Pleaser's is, which has a 1 year lockout. I think 6 months is reasonable, though. If you look at the repeat winners, like Squatty @Squatty or C to the J @C to the J, they didn't win because of some clique. They won in landslides because they put in work and an overwhelming majority of forum members recognized that.

I personally don't like seeing mods who joke or play about banning people. I know it is all usually all in good fun, but it can seem tyrannical.

I also feel like people can be more kind when they are addressing issues they see. I also can be more kind. There have been times when I when have been rude or sassy to people. I apologize for that and will work on my behavior.

I guess I hadn't realized we were making a lot of jokes like that. I'll be more mindful in the future.

I don't particularly care about the banner but I do understand the desire to have it. The bigger issue for me is how attempting to get the banner leads to trash hits being reposted in bulk like fashion. I think Kadauchi @Kadauchi had the right idea with limiting the export of a hit from MTS to once ever 15(?) minutes. I'm not sure that's enough though. Someone with more skill than me and more time might consider making a script that uses a spoiler to hide hits that have already been posted in the last 2-3 hours. That way they are posted for people who haven't seen them yet but also don't clog up the forum as much.
