i completely disagree with this
I think my post was a bit misunderstood. I meant that people will usually vote for the really obvious people who overwhelmingly post way more than anyone else (those top two or three). I'm very well aware that there are loads of people on here who are very helpful who've gotten no recognition.

That's just my opinion, though. I really don't approve of forum awards period. I think they usually end up causing problems, and that's being demonstrated in this thread right now.

Dark humor is kind of funny in a way that it serves to deflect all of the nonsense of daily grinding. I'm probably not the biggest perpetrator, but I think I can explain it as such - It's kind of like wadding up your anxieties into big ball and throwing it into the wastebasket. Sometimes it misses, sometimes it lands next to the Burger King wrapper and fry box. Either way you're still throwing it off because some things have to get done, and it's easier to just be glib about certain troubles.
.

This is exactly how I feel about it and I feel bad that it comes off the wrong way to some people. I love dark humor and it makes turking constantly easier for me.

yes, i think that would be more appropriate. honestly i think the most appropriate thing is, you win once and that's it. why would you be able to win again? if you limited it to one time per person you would really see people around here getting excited about it and then the award would go to someone new every time. the way that it is right now seems very clique-ish and exclusive and just rotates between the same people all the time
wow i never thought about this. good idea. it would get people more excited about it

I don't recall this. If you can find the post for me, perhaps I can find the context. It's possible there was previous conversation in PM or elsewhere that led up to that that may have not been public.
I honestly don't feel like going through the last week of June's threads to find this. I just went through the 8 pages of Rerun's posts via his profile, but it cuts off at the beginning of July. And there was previous conversation in PMs, but the post was an obvious compliment.

Now the guy doesn't even want to log in much here. Not just because of that one post, but because of the entire nature of the forums nowadays

It is hard sometimes to read sarcasm over the internet so I'll try to be more mindful of that too. I also apologize if I ever come across as clique-ish. I truly enjoy getting to know new people.
I think it's hard to avoid inside jokes. The question is are we actively pushing away people with those jokes? I don't really think so. I've been thinking about what aveline @aveline said about other forums and hits recieving more likes. I agree that that's true. However, I feel closer here and more willing to both give and seek out help than I do on other forums. Can we find a way to balance out both the informal, possibly cliquish, nature of the place with the ability for new people to hop in and participate?

There's always going to be inside jokes because the are a lot of members here who have been around a long time and have developed friendships. But I think the way to balance it is to also mindfully and actively reach out and reply to members who are newer or who are quieter to include them and ask their opinions on things and such. Being reached out to by name and included is something I think we all (myself included) can work on that would help.

I think we're trying to fix that here, and move the forum into a more positive direction.

I feel there should be an award made just for the people who report times for HITs. It is one thing to post multiple HITs every day, and a completely different thing to actually do them.
This idea is good in theory but it would probably be hard as heck to implement since there isn't really any way to keep track of that.

I'll give my 2 cents. (5/5 pay)

I've been running around the forums with scissors for a couple of months now. Not once have I felt unwelcome. Granted, I'm not the most sensitive guy in the world. Even when I take shots at myself, someone usually has something positive to say. The forum has been helpful when I've had questions.

It would be difficult for me to not be sarcastic, but most of what I post is also to lighten the mood.

I suppose that when people have been working together for a while, friendships develop. This might seem cliquish to some, but I think it's human nature. And when you get this many people from different backgrounds, things are going to go in different directions from time to time. I have no idea about the awards, because I haven't been here that long.

But really, the admins, mods, and posters deserve a thanks for there contributions.

We're trying to move the forum in a positive direction by getting input from people on what works. But it also requires that members work with us to help us move things in a positive direction. As mods, we can't be responsible for what everyone posts. Everyone's responsible for their own words and we can only ask that people contribute positively.

Even our Guidelines start off with the first line saying "This is a Positive Place for Public Discussion". So it's up to everyone to please follow that and support it.

I'm glad there's at least an effort. Some admins/mods of forums wouldn't care enough.

I didn't mean to be a Debbie downer. I'm glad this discussion and thread exists. I was just talking about things I've seen on here and how I truly feel personally 100%. I do appreciate your efforts

We didn't want to lock people out forever, with HIT Poster especially, because we worried that people would stop contributing after winning. We have seen that in some cases (not all) and figured that the possibility of a future win might help to keep them posting.

We could make a compromise, though. How about 2 wins? For both HIT Poster and Crowd pleaser, the lockouts stay the same, but after you get a sparkly banner you're out forever. Would that be acceptable?

At the very least, the hit poster award should be a bit more strict. If I posted multiple sHITs with an awful TO and 0 or 1 cent pay every day then I could be in the running for the award - but why would I deserve it? I get that sometimes bad TO hits are awesome and take a short amount of time. But it gets to the point sometimes that people are obviously just going down scraper/finder and exporting every single thing they find. I'm all for people being recognized, but they should be required to put effort towards it.

That's why we put up the top 5 HIT posters for a vote. If you see someone in the top 5 that you know posts garbage HITs, give your vote to someone else that doesn't do that.

That's why we have a vote, too. People won't vote for someone that just spams garbage all day, every day. We've seen this at work, too. There used to be someone here that did just that, and they were often included in the HIT Poster vote, but never came close to winning.

make hit poster based on thanks to the post, you got people posting machine gun hits all red to with no thanks they shouldn't count towards hit poster, it just hurts the people who do use the thread to grab hits. It would eliminate the boys club going on. I stopped posting on the main hit threads, it got too crazy.

We looked into this at the beginning, but there's no way to easily count up likes or thanks on posts with the current forum software.
