I did early voting this year. I like that a lot better than trying to go on election day. I did that once and it was awful.
VA doesn't have it. Sad.

Yeah it's not fun to drive around here, very frustrating. That's why we're called "stoplight city"

It was interesting though, that 9/11 is a huge deal and they are taught about that. Makes sense though, since none of them were born yet, or they were babies. They still don't get it though...this past 9/11 I was being a loser and watching old videos and crying a little bit like a baby lol...she's like "what's wrong, it wasn't that big of a deal was it?"
Historic events are not usually a "big deal" unless ....you are there. In fact, there used to be both a radio program and a TV program called, "You Are There" w/ Walter Cronkite. [who?:)]

It was the only thing I knew about Evansville, because we have a Frontier League team near me. Haha.

I had a history teacher back in high school that took his WW1 & 2 sections very seriously. For 1, he would give his students paper gas masks. If he caught you without it on in the hallway, you had 10 seconds to get it out or else you "died". For 2, he just hid behind stuff and and yelled "Banzai!". Pretty entertaining especially if you weren't paying attention. He finally retired this year. I know this isn't hitting what you're talking about, but that dude was awesome.
Sounds like a frigging EXCELLENT teacher. He brought history forward to the present: best way to teach kids history, I think. Aside: I take WWII and the Greatest Generation quite seriously because if they'd not won WWII for us, we'd be either Japanese or German slaves right now. Literally.

Good post, Metallica @Metallica

My boyfriend went to go vote this morning and said there were at least 100 cars in the parking lot/lined up and down the dirt road our polling place is on. It is kind of amazing to me that my little community is hitting it so hard this morning!

To give you a little more hope in History education, I'm 33 and my HS history teacher was a Vietnam vet who took history VERY seriously. We learned an awful lot about WWII, WWI, and more about Native Americans than we should have re: curriculum. He took us to a lot of memorials and really drove it home, had Holocaust survivors come visit us in the classroom, had us go to local Native American festivals and talk to them. He was one of the best humans I've ever met.

That sounds freaking awesome, and I'm jealous. My History teacher was like, 90, and literally just rolled the TV out every day and we watched movies. I think we watched Schindler's List 5 times that year.
