Prolific is anything but. They seem to be very coy about their interest in me doing their surveys. Some days I get none, others I get two or three in a row.

I only have a few hours a day to work on this stuff. They seem to reward people who are at their computers all day and can see these things pop up. I wish there was an alert where I could be notified where something came into my queue, I'd probably do more of them.

Their studies do post at random times and, obviously the researchers don't coordinate it. So, I agree, it's totally random. But, as far as noticing if you qualify for anything, I've never tried but, could you use an extension that monitors changes in a web page(the 'Studies' page on Prolific) and when it changes, because you qualify for something, it alerts you via pushbullet? Never tried but, I think there are extensions for that purpose. Don't know if it would work here though.

User experiences vary on Prolific so much because of the hundreds of qualifying demographics that we all fill out when we set up our accounts. It's a lot more automated and customized than Mturk so you might not see any surveys up because your demographics didn't match the requester's. So there could be 50 surveys up but you don't see any of them because you don't qual for them. Personally, I like only seeing the surveys that I am qualified for. Some days I get nothing and some days I get a dozen or so.

I would definitely argue that it is a worthwhile platform since it launched a couple years ago:

I never noticed but it considers a 'returned' survey to be a 'submission.' odd. I've only had 3 actual rejections over there.

I'm sure you could...I also get emails from them once in a while with studies but if I'm not near my computer when I get them, I won't catch them when I log in. Definitely sporadic.

Also if you leave it open in a tab there will be a number if anything pops up. Unless I have a script that does that. I think there is also a script that makes it ding, but I might've made that up

Not for me. There aren't a lot of studies that "sit around" like on AMT. So, there's no big flood when you sign up, as you catch up. And, since all the studies post at random old times, it's just a slower, non-batch version of Mturk. But, things post usually with much lower participant amounts(usually between 200-1000, which is pretty low. So, they post then you can see how many slots are left. They don't last long. There's no real PandAs. Like, rarely will a study come back. Because you have to do them one at a time so, there aren't a lot that expire and you're already prequaled for anything you see(almost). It's a one study at a time sort of thing and, I've never seen more than 4 that were up at a time(available to me). Hope this helps but, Prolific was the same pace for years and now, it's a bit busier, for me. YMMV.

But, definitely, the more your demographic/personal stuff is filled out, the more you will qualify for. Some people think that if they don't fill in something, they won't disqualify themselves accidentally. That doesn't work on Prolific because if you don't have an income filled in, it's the same as having the wrong income.
