Well sure there are other means, I would imagine not everyone needs as much protein as I try to intake which is more in the range of 150-200g per day. Some sort of meat in macaroni is more of my personal preference.

I wanna edit my earlier thing, ground beef is the only meat I'll eat in mac and cheese. Tacomac/cheeseburger mac are both A+ (occasionally)

I've never done tacomac. I usually go with bacon or a combination of bacon and chicken. Though its been a while since I have made a batch, because it takes a bit of time between all the prep,making the béchamel sauce and baking it with the topping.

Yes it is a popular meal among older kids who barely know how to cook, to college students, to adults who just want to relieve their childhood. My wife is American and she was really surprised to learn I eat it as a meal. While it wouldn't be dinner for an adult, you can do worse for lunch.

As far as adding meat, hotdogs or bacon would probably be the most popular, but chicken is another good option. I personally wouldn't but some people also put ketchup on it.
