I started them inside too and put them outside then bugs would eat their teeny tiny leaves :seedling:.

my problem starting them indoors weren't leaves. It was the center stem growing long enough that it got top heavy, fell over and kinked, killing itself before I put a support stick into the ground and tomato-taped the stem to it.

I do get some leaf eating when I grow pumpkins/watermelons outside, but the plant by that time has grown a lot so it seems to be robust to a little bit of insect leaf eating.
