This is actually well-known, go look at YouTube videos about dumpster divers and see where they say that they're going to sell some of the stuff they find.
I've gone dumpster diving before. Gotten some designer clothes with tags, perfect condition solid wood furniture, brand new toys for kiddo. No shame.

I had a Walmart open up across the street and it had an open dumpster and I just couldn't resist sneaking in there at about 2 a.m. in the morning and seeing what I could find. Too bad it was one of those Walmarts they closed down and pissed everybody off a couple years back.

There used to be a dollar general that had a huge open dumpster behind it where they'd throw their discontinued items in once a month. I 100% hit that up every month.

There's a paywall, so I can't read the article, but this is why I don't buy 3rd party stuff off Amazon. There's so much junk like that and knockoffs and such that you never really know what you're going to get.
Isn't a lot of stuff on Amazon 3rd party? There are some direct sellers but there's a lot of co-mingled inventory.

There's a lot of trust and "just don't think about it" with stuff you buy just about anywhere though. Basically all packaging is various degrees of icky.

One of the retailers I worked at didn't allow us to just throw merchandise in the trash. We either had to send it back to the place it came from or we had to put it in the trash compactor, have three witnesses, and fill out a form stating that we destroyed the merchandise. It used to make me so mad because I felt like it was a huge waste. It would have been better to donate the stuff, but I think that was part of the agreement with the manufactures.

I have a Dollar General right now about 600 feet away from me that has an open dumpster, but I haven't hit it in years and it was never even near as exciting as a open Walmart dumpster. I was actually shocked at what Walmart would throw away, I can see why they keep almost all of their dumpster is under lock and key.

Shit like that pisses me off. I used to work at the customer service desk at walmart. The amount of perfectly good food trashed was infuriating. Here I was eating once a day because I couldn't afford groceries and all of this perfectly good food was literally being thrown in the trash. It was depressing.

Could be the reason for some places to do that, but I have mostly found that is it the managers of the store that set the policy on the dumpsters.

Yea, it gets to me to, but I know someone who owned a Dunkin donuts, and tried to donate the food. She gave instructions for how long to keep it but the place they donated to kept them longer than they were supposed to, people got sick, and she was sued so as far as food goes I understand why they have to trash so much of it. For other things though I think they should definitely be donated.

My Robert Chaudoin game seems to be frozen. Anyone else? It's been stuck on a page saying "Please wait for the decisions..." for several minutes now.
