re: creepy amazon
There are two words in our top of the page amazon dac7 statement that give me pause ... May and Could ... To me and I'm not an attorney by any stretch of the means, these two words state loudly that amazon really can't do anything if we don't fill out this form. this is a trial run, since afterall, farmers, manufacturers, walmart, etsy, ebay, etc, are involved in buying and selling with the EU. where are the others being forced to do this? everyone and everything is involved in this one way or the other. we'll wait and see. if those of us who don't fill the thing out because we aren't interested in joining the EU by obediently signing our SS #s over to them get kicked off the work platform, then we'll know. personnaly, something tells me this is a trial balloon to see how many people will do this because of fear of lost income or face. reminds me of something from last century:
Assuming the Presidency at the depth of the Great Depression, Franklin D. Roosevelt helped the American people regain faith in themselves. He brought hope as he promised prompt, vigorous action, and asserted in his Inaugural Address, “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

re: mturk request for ss# and tax id number. My assumption is that mturk is trying to comply with some new regulation by the IRS. I do know, for instance, they are going after tipped employees (Notice 2023-13). I did a minor search on the IRS webpage of new directives - but can't find what might be targeting us (finances are so not my thing - and I didn't go through all the directives).
But I also know they have additional resources (increased budget) and they are ramping up auditing for
shall I call us 'low lying fruit'?
Anyway, this is my best guess! If you know more, are better informed than I - well, I gladly concede. But atm, this is my guess.

we are all reaching on this one since amazon offers no real explanation. if the irs wanted this then that's easy to say and point out reg. but that's not what they did. they did the EU instead. what bugs me is i follow some informed websites and these mention nothing about this. with all their talk about CBDC i think they would at least give this a mention if this was something the irs wants. as before the words "may" and "could" mean something. BS legalese perhaps? also, what bothers me is i've heard folks saying how wonky the site is to fill this thing out. why? under god's blue sky would anyone! fill out something that is "wonky" on the internet that requires one's SS #?

today's funny

A senior couple wasn't making it on social security. So they decided to put the woman on the street to make some extra bucks.

She comes back after the first day and they count the day's take at the kitchen table. It came to $80.25. The husband gets irate and asks his wife, "Who's the cheapskate who gave you a quarter????"

"Every last one of 'em"....

80.25 divided by 0.25 is 321... 🔥🔥🔥
