At this point my help on the matter begins and ends with giving them a link to the site.

I used to try and explain stuff, but at this point, you can google "Mturk help" and pretty much trip in to a bunch of newbie guides and crap.

I've referred so many weenies to mtruck and they either didn't even bother trying it or made a few dollars and gave up. In fact, I just read an article on something called Penny Pincher (?) I think, and it listed mtruck as a source of income you can "make from home" but "don't expect to get rich" because "you're going to make $50 max per week on it if you even try".

There was some work from home site where the basic consensus was "You can try but you're going to pretty much make slave wages and get scammed a bunch".

When people who DID make decent money on Mturk replied... the guy accused everyone of lying, deleted a bunch of comments, then deleted the entire entry, then put the entry back up with a throw away line about some people claiming to make a decent living off of it.

Yes. I do think that is true.

The scripts don't make learning any easier... they make the work easier and more profitable. That isn't an insignificant thing. Having better tools for parsing out the hits makes it easier and more profitable. Things like turkmaster have made catching hits very much easier than the older manual ways we started with... having tools like scraper to keep an eye on what is posting... and tools like hitmonitor to instantly notify you when good work posts. Those things are not insignificant... they are very very significant and contribute a great deal to the ease with which a person can achieve success.

People still need to learn other things... but don't devalue the work the community has put in to make the turking life easier, more profitable, and less frustrating.

I don't mean to denigrate the efforts of the folks who are writing the scripts and offering advice every day. Thank you @Kadauchi, @Jaded, @aveline, @kryssyy, @electrolyte . And if you say so, I'll take your word for it that this is easier today than it used to be. I haven't even been here for a year. I just don't think it's easy at all. This is hard work.

I work part time IRL and my kids are grown so I have some time to put in. My main thing is to keep balance. I still do the things I enjoy outside of this. I will work an hour or so before I go to work each morning, and then If I have time in the afternoons I will pop in for a bit. Mostly though I work on this at night, because I have less distractions.
