the people who can't figure out which hits are the scam hits on their own without the help of TO/forums and give login details, credit card infos, etc deserve everything that they get

God. I remember explaining that to a friend. She messaged me on facebook and said "So these HITs that pay 40 dollars a piece but want me to sign up for a credit card, are those safe"

...No, no girl, those are not safe. No.

They were all over the place though, just pages upon pages of HITs where you would sign up for a "Free trial" of something for 30 bucks. Soooooo many people got rammed by those.

My daughter was a huge supporter of that stuff and how you could drink it and be all the substance you would need. I tried to tell her that if something like that could exist it would not need to be a freaking indiegogo and there was no way in hell something like that could replace tacos, pizza and a fat sizzling steak. But she bought a case and drank one bottle (rather part of one) and after a bit of time gave it all away

Thankful for the trail blazers who came before us. It had to start somewhere. Just like we wouldn't want to go back to life without modern conveniences I don't think anyone would want to go back to the way mturk used to be. I can surely tell you I wouldn't have been able to stick it out. 1st of all because of what @Lepi posted above, but also I am no where near as computer literate as a lot of you and know absolutely nothing about scripting and programming. I am a middle aged woman who stumbled upon this site one day when I was part of a blogging community and ran across an article about this place. And here I am.

Just imagine trying to do this without ANY scripts. At all. The only way to find hits is to manually search through Mturk. The only way to pick up a hit is to manually click on it and accept it. The only way to figure out if a HIT is worth doing is to do it.

Then add about 200 percent more HITs that were COMPLETE scams. Either the requester rejected your work, or they rejected your work and also it was a phishing scam, so they stole your credit card information as well.

There were no forums to communicate with other workers.

It's not even just the scripts, it's the entire community. It's really well developed now, but there was a period of time where it was just you and your computer and scams for days. This was before 6 bucks an hour was the "standard", so most people were paying less than that by a wide margin.

Turking used to be way, way harder, and also, a gigantic crap shoot in terms of whether you would get paid at all.

I really get that. I remember a conversation that I had involving you and I think electrolyte maybe aveline a long time ago on another forum where you both came to some conclusion that you were probably just enabling the new turkers. I still search for hits on the regular ole Turk site. Just to keep my hand in you know. Sometimes I just type a random word into the search bar and work on whatever comes up. I'm not proud, but I'm working hard just like you.

I wanted to give it a try as a possible replacement for extended hiking trips that turned into overnight trips and such... but seriously... i'd rather just fall back on training and my "edible plants of north america field guide"... that shit was revolting on a few levels.
