My best guess opinion is their service is slow, crashing, disastrous now because they got so popular and their infrastructure can't handle it. They need to scale up!

And I know the scaling up problem is what's going on with Prolific. They told me they're definitely aware and actively working on it, but it grew super big super fast and they're having a hard time keeping up at the moment.

Agreed! I'm willing to put up with some growing pains with them in exchange for having a reasonable alternative to MTurk for academic surveys.
