July last year. I just looked it up.

300% increase in cost.
So 3 pennies instead of 1? This shit is starting to piss me off, and not just on a personal level. I'm working at a place that hosts a lot of law students. I want to talk to them about it, but at the same time, I don't want to fuck things up for other people. How do you guys feel about this?
The fee hike was a bit more complex than that. Before July of last year, all non-masters HITs had a fee of 10% of whatever that HIT paid. Masters HITs had a fee of 30%. That 300% increase only applied to HITs that had 10 or more of the same HIT in a group (typically surveys). Everything else non-masters was increased from 10% to 20%. Masters fees were dropped from 30% to 25%. The reality of the whole fee hike situation wasn't as bad as many made it out to be.

If we're going to discuss why good requesters seem to be dwindling on mturk, why don't we also take a look at ourselves? Anyone that has ever done a HIT that had you grade another worker's submissions can tell you that most of the results that no or low qual requesters are getting are absolutely garbage. Then you add to that, the hostility that requesters often face when they attempt to reject said garbage. Mturk is not an easy place to get quality results unless you've been here for a long time and really know how to work with quals and stuff.

The thing I don't like is that it doesn't specify how many days you have to do it to get that $3 and if you miss even one day you are out

If only more requesters knew well enough to put out qual batches and choose their workers accordingly, the Mtruck would be a much better place for everyone.

That really only works for batches though I suppose.

to piggyback on this, it seems to me, completely anecdotally, that a lot more requesters are taking advantage of quals currently, even for short term work

between that and hiding work from those unqualified, it certainly takes a little more effort to find the work sometimes, but its there

Especially when there are so many workers who are okay with providing crappy work or those who screw the requesters over. I still have not seen Video7789 (or whatever their username was) post hits ever since people began exploiting them "openly" in the forum. And that kind of stuff still pisses me off because we lose so many good requesters to bad apple workers. I've always viewed Mturk as an opportunity, but also as something to be grateful for. After all, I can work from home with it. Isn't that a lifestyle people should at least be willing to work a bit harder for? I remember watching an episode of Shark Tank or something where one of the sharks said, "We work 80 hours to avoid working 40," and that has stuck with me because it seems (at least currently) like what many mturk workers do to avoid having a typical job. So I completely agree with you on that. I think workers get what they get. If we act like crappy workers who won't submit quality data...and then wonder why so much work is underpaid? No wonder so many good requesters have left or developed their own work platforms.

The thing I don't like is that it doesn't specify how many days you have to do it to get that $3 and if you miss even one day you are out
It said it's a 6 day thing. So you have to review 6 articles, one per day, and do them all to get the $3 bonus.
