Not the same as a baptism. At least not the ones I've been to. Catholics do christenings. Protestants generally wait till the kid can make their own decision but until then, they do dedications saying that they promise to do their best to indoctrin... (ahem) I mean, teach their child about God and raise them in the church. Obviously, not religious now but was raised that way.
