Maybe I should give craigslist another shot. I found that most of the listings were already on other sites like Zillow OR scams :(. It would be one thing if I could check out the places on my own but I'm not sure I'd trust craigslist if moving across country. Let me know if you find any other useful sites, we're moving this summer :).
I got in touch with a local rental company. We're were going to move quickly last fall - and after looking through craigslist and contacting a few folks (one very nice guy tried to get me into a long distance bidding war.............that's the quality in a potential landlord that I'm looking for, right :cautious:).

Anyway, I finally googled a local renting agency and developed a 'relationship' with someone. I think we'll use them when we eventually get ready to make the trek. He was really nice, said he'd take pics of the apartments/houses - and had LOTS of valuable info (I come with kid, cat and very large dog :wink:. He WANTED to work with me. :)

I'd recommend giving a local agency a try.

is it that bad in Florida? going to buy a house there in the next few years so we can retire there.

Would not surprise me at all in Florida. Probably depends on what part of the state you're in though.
