If you're working a normal job then you should just be happy with whatever you make no matter how small.
It's extra income you wouldn't have otherwise.
Mturk is a damn good hobby but a terrible full time job. :D
yea, that's pretty much how I'm treating it.
what happened with me was one day in may, i opened mturk after a few posts in reddit/beermoney

note: i don't drink beer. i do drink liquor though

and it said I had an account, and that in 2012 i was approved for a hit for 0.17
so for a week I'd do simple tasks (not brelig, richmond or scoutit, despite their apparent popularity with newbies that i don't understand) until I'd reach $1, because that was a threshold that I was used to on sites like swagbucks.
I'd push them over to amazon gift certs each day.

then it struck me to look for a reddit for mturk, to see if i might double my earnings up to $2. off to the side of the HWTF reddit, there's a link to mtc

and I'd rather spend my usual 8pm to 11pm trying to hit $10, than my old habits of using other sites to reach PERHAPS $1.

I'll drop kayfabe for a sec and say that this ain't necessarily true

plenty of jobs are fucking awful rn and not worth the time if you put a little effort into learning mturk; take into account stress/convenience/travel, and on the flip side benefits/vacation etc. when making that decision

back to being a puckered sour asshole

what benefits, in particular?
anything useful? anything sexy?
One of the best perks is having aveline editing your posts when you bitch at a requester. That's probably gonna happen either way. If you don't have live thread update, you're missing out. Keyword alerts are also helpful if you're wanting to see updates on anything related to a requester or such.

Making your own hours is lovely but the thing that really kills me is the consistency.

Just recently felt like I can't handle the full time turk anymore.
It's a goddamn rollercoaster sometimes.

I don't know I guess maybe I talk to Kerek @Kerek too much.

All that said, I make $10-$15/hr while in my underwear and fucking rocking out to loud music, so it isn't all bad.

I don't like live update, I find it annoying. especially when I'm typing out a thoughtful post/reply and all of a sudden the page adds another post and I'm no longer looking at my text, but another person posting images of something like a red panda or something..

but when I turn live update off, the alerts stop working - they used to work before I had the option to turn liveupdate on. they don't work now without liveupdate.

Do you have post jump on? It sounds like you're describing post jump, not live update.

Yea I used to screw with those other websites way back when.
Seems like a goddamn joke now compared to Mturk.

Though I did make a small fortune in Swagbucks referrals when they first started.
Uploaded a few videos of hot girls dancing on youtube with my referral link at the bottom.

Took maybe 20 minutes.
Made $3k in the last 8 years off it.

HIT of the Century.

it WAS on, earlier when I voiced alarm

it's not on anymore. I'm just talking about the page shifting to allow the new/live posts in.

it was a measured gamble for me

efficiency is key, and as with any freelance, you have to plan for dry periods

I will say, the dry periods aren't really that bad, or even really that existent, if you're willing; and the good times are totally worth it all

this literally all goes out the window if you have someone else to support though, I would take retail back up in a heartbeat if someone else's life was on my payroll

I've noticed I'm earning much more than the guys I go to college with on a weekly basis, and I have a full time afterwards. I've tried pointing some of them in the direction, but the moment they see that Amazon requires their SSN they back off. One of them tried but payments wouldn't verify their info. I'm pretty much known as the weirdo who works for Amazon all day. I hate socializing with other people and Mturk is thankfully a good way around that, but I really feel sorry for anyone trying to live on this. The self employment tax is brutal, and personally I think the newer people are in shit creek if they don't have any quals. With the presence of more powerful scripts, I don't see someone that goes without making a dime.

Just work hard when there's stuff up and feel awful, then don't work hard when there isn't stuff up and feel awful. That's perfectly consistent.

That's the thing that for me makes it possible to be a full timer.
Efficiency.
I have a lot of little "rituals" that I do during the day that end up helping my PE a lot.

The best thing about my personal experience is I don't have to support someone (well besides her kid lol).
But I have Princess Gina Marie @Princess Gina Marie on the other side of our office all day.
Can alert each other to the hot batches, qual hits, surveys actually worth a shit, etc.

I can't imagine being solo and making a great living off mturk but with 2 people doing this shit it's damn fine :bode:

Don't forget what they have to pay back in student loans.
That even lowers their weekly earnings report.....or "paychecks" as those freaks call it.

I have to disagree with the thing about newer people.
Over the course of a week, yes my closed quals may help me a bit but on an average day I'm just doing whatever the hell is up.

It's just some people "get it" and some don't.
And that's not a knock on people....that's just how it is with any job/hobby/etc/whatever

No turk money all this week. I did end up with $12 yesterday and $7 today. I'm trying to get that last $1 just so I can say I made an extra $20 this weekend basically doing nothing.

See, this is why an MTurk commune would be AMAZING. Put a dozen of us in a big room and see what happens. (Would need an amazing internet connection to handle that, though.)
