People feel differently about it. I liked doing them to get my HITS above 10,000.

It's really depends on which A9's are up at any given time. Sometimes the 1 cent ones will take less than 2 seconds each and you can make them worth your while, the 2 cent ones are really good money if you have the stamina and patience to do hundreds of them hour after hour. But they post a lot of different ones and most of them aren't really worth your time unless you're trying to get your numbers up.

Do you do penny batches at all?

if you mean literally 1 penny per hit, not very often. then I would max out at $38.00 or less with returns/expires. rarely 2 cents per hit either. I like some batches though.

what was the bonus? I did some of these. not very many.

they're not the worst, but there's a limit to the $/hr and, obviously, they count quite a bit towards the 3800 HITs/day cap and occupy your time that could be spent otherwise

take into account whatever your situation is and use your best judgement, there's no cut-and-dry method really
