Or you could just upgrade the ram and not limit yourself. It's not like memory is prohibitively expensive.

But I only have 24GB of ram..

I was more thinking that the laptop may not be able to upgrade it's ram that much if at all.

Also laptop ram cost a lot more then desktop ram.

I've realized that I'm not going to make >$50/day with this laptop and its low memory. So I'm either going to get a new laptop or add more RAM. What's the minimum amount of RAM I should look for to efficiently run several scripts and pandas? 8GB? 16?

8 gigs, unless you're doing intensive video or photo editing, you don't really need 16 gigs. I have 8 gigs and run a crapload of tabs at the same time and have never even come close to running short of memory. Whatever money you can save can go toward buying an SSD for your laptop, which would make a huge difference, although you might want to just add ram to this one and save until the holiday sales to just get a new laptop altogether.

I'm pretty sure that you were a masochist.. considering the year that mturk launched.

You could prob manage turking on 4GB but 8GB would be safe.. I figure that the laptop with less then that to start with also has a slow HDD/CPU as well so it might not be a magic fix. SSDs are amazing to throw into old machines though.
