I feel sorry for them too. Sitting out there in the cold, watching their little fondant circle getting smaller and smaller, scrunching closer to keep the queen alive even as they feel the cold settling in on them, knowing that they have to protect the queen beyond all cost, regardless of how many of them die in the process...and each one that dies makes the hive that much colder and that much less likely to survive the winter...

poor tiny bees.

Yeppppppp :/

One sting and that entire area swells, my throat closes, anaphylactic shock and all'at
From all stinging insects? You can be allergic to wasps but not bees, the venom is slightly different.

I live in an agricultural community that relies on bees. You're making me so sad! Isn't there a way to provide them with warm? I'll crochet them little bee blankets with holes they can hive-up in!

(I refuse to use any sort of pesticides in my yard specifically due to the lowered bee population. I'd rather lose some of my crops than never have any to begin with because nothing was pollinated.)

Yes, this was a loaded question. Without bees, the global food supply would essentially be non-existent. So, you hate bees, you hate food.
Can't help it, stingers and buzzy things scare me. I hate things that scare me.

This has a similar name to a hit up by a different requester, do you think we could do one from each requester?

Actually the best thing to keep them warm would be some nice, insulating snow. I've got some insulation in there already (2" of styrofoam); they're pretty good at keeping themselves warm.

Refusing to use pesticides is great. The more people you can convince to not use them (or at least use them at night when the bees aren't active) the better. A bee has about a 5 mile forage radius, so the problem is that the area is 78.5 square miles :dead: hard to get the word out that whole area.

I've been stung by several kinds (live in the south), never had that problem with bee stings or anything other than wasps.

yeah, wasps are shit. They're carnivorous too, and towards the end of the season they'll try to get into beehives and will wreck a weaker colony.

The neighbors right next door to me don't use it, either. I realize that's not the largest radius, but we also mention to our other neighbors that we would really love it if they didn't use pesticides during the times our crops are blooming or growing to increase crop production. Since I allow half my neighbors into my yard to pick their own stuff because my trees/vines produce more than I can consume, most agree. Not really a 5 mile radius, but the best I can do!

(sorry all, so OT! I just grow a LOT of stuff on my tiny little plot of land)
