This is a misconception that always gets spread like wildfire.

Sure, knowing people is half the battle, but no one is going to hire Jo Shmo because he's funny when he's drunk over someone who has a Bachelor's degree and years of experience. There's many factors that play into this.

I would have agreed with you 7 years ago when I graduated college, but after working for slightly above minimum wage and having managers above me that barely know english, I have to respectfully disagree.

I've seen so many people get promoted ahead of me simply because they have a better relationship with the boss. I've seen people succeed in careers I've been struggling in for years simply because they are in contact with people in the industry.


I mean even on MTURK. Who makes more money... they people on the forums that know each other and communicate, or the people that have NEVER talked with ANYONE and just use mturk with no scripts and have no idea what t.o. or pandas are.

Don't trust progress bars. I've seen them jump from 30% to 95% in one page. Usually when I'm just about fed up.

I updated to 0.1.7.1 and the HIT export buttons are missing. Also, what does Turkplus do?

Umm, try toggling them all off/on in the extension dropdown. Turkplus was the original incarnation of MTS.

But that's completely up to you to engage and /or read. Just like it is your choice to mingle at a party or network on linkdin. It's not out of your hands. It might be harder for some, but it's not a given.

You know, I was just telling my husband the other day I was going to make a "turk resume" and list all my job duties/experience from hits in the style of IRL jobs. He said that if I turned it in with an application, someone who doesn't know about turk reading it would probably call the looney bin to have me committed for delusions of grandeur.

lol sad to say, when I updated my resume last year, I kind thought the way your husband thought, I mean, yeah I judge surgeries, but how can I prove that? the "approved" rating on the dashboard? I mean, they can't call C-Sats for a reference or anything.

and if they did what would c-sats say as a reply? "yes worker A5559BLAH is my favorite worker. He doesn't hoard the hits like @C to the J "

when i started it was the people that didn't talk to anyone and made their own scripts and kept that shit to themselves.
a lot of the bullshit mturk has put in place in the last few years is a direct result of the scripts exploding.
