I Didn't know this till yesterday. I don't think I ever realized it worked that way.
In my job, we got 8 paid holidays per year (til next year, where we only get 6, but we get two 'floating holidays' to use whenever)
so since Christmas was Sunday (and new years day is next Sunday) we get off on Monday, paid.
Christmas Eve was Saturday, so we had Friday as a paid holiday,
with the option of also going in and working at double our normal payrates

And you had to walk 40 miles to school...in the snow...with no shoes.
At least that's what jml @jml told me.
I went to Catholic school as a kid, and we had to wear the uniform. On snow days, like any other day, the boys wore pants. The girls uniform was a skirt and you couldn't wear leg warmers - just the knee-length skirt and knee socks (if the principal saw you coming to school in leg warmers or long pants - under your skirt, of course, you got detention!)
those nuns meant business:eek:
