I'm on a first name basis with waitresses and drive thru people at a lot of places I frequent. Being friendly brightens their day and who knows being nice can get you a free dessert and stuff

Or a date I went to a greek place with friends a lot, and had the same waiter (family owned business) every time. I got a lot of free stuff and just assumed they were awesome people...until he asked me out on the check one night.
