I only learned how because I wanted to make my own script.
I think it can be a good stepping stone to go from.
Use a script. See how it works.
Take it apart and look at the pieces.
Put it back together.
Make your own script.

If I didn't see how other scripts worked it would be a lot harder for me to learn, and I wouldn't even know what is possible.
