In this situation it sounds like a tos violation on the part of the requester has caused the problem... I don't have a good suggestion to fix this particular situation beyond stressing to the requester that the work was completed in good faith, and should be paid in good faith as the original agreement stipulated without regard to the usability of the results if that usability was not in some way affected by negligence on the part of the worker. murk needs to provide more tools. Specifically a better way to keep in touch with workers without collecting personal information (this appears to be the deficiency the requester was trying to work around)... as well as a more intuitive way to send money to workers if they haven't successfully completed a hit for you.

But it's my understanding that it wasn't completed, because there was a second part. I think the solution would be to just finish the work they both agreed to for the $2.

I'm not really that angry. It's just annoying. Probably just a new requester who designed their hit/study poorly. Hopefully they learn from it. Like, make the hit 25 cents and bonus on study completion. I just wish I didn't have to eat the rejection.

I wasn't aware of this... but if the worker did not complete a second part they aren't entitled to any pay for work not completed. The hit could simply be reposted sans the TOS violation and the first part that will allow those workers to complete the second half of the work. As for the rejections themselves, they don't really matter beyond hyperbole. But mturk could certainly add some nuance to the binary work completion scheme if it really were a significant cause for concern... like say different kinds of rejections with entirely different names and purposes with clarity to all involved... say in the current situation an annulment of the contract of some sort be issued where the work cannot be accepted due to a tos violation but annulment doesn't count toward the worker account. Sort of like they should be doing with blocks.

Yes, this is the point I've been trying to ineffectively and infrequently make for a long time.

I agree with everything else, but luckily it doesn't come up so often that it's a huge problem. Or maybe unluckily, since it will never be fixed.
