do you guys know if it's normal/okay that the freezer in my apt. goes up to 45-55 degrees F when it defrosts? stays there for 40+ minutes. then back down to 0 F. landlord says that's normal/safe. I'm new to cooking and not sure if I will get food poisoning. a lot of the things I'm planning on freezing/keeping in the fridge have few preservatives, like vegetables, meat, cream.

freezers should never get above freezing

Why is your freezer defrosting?
Is it removing the build up?

it's automatic defrost 1-2 times per day. there's no buildup of frost. there's water droplets all over the freezer when it happens.
