I've told this story before so if you've heard it forgive me. I had Amazon go down one afternoon, acted just like this, could get some places and not others. Got service out here and they couldn't find the problem then the guy's wife calls him and she can't shop as the Internet is down. Turns out they traced it back to Amazon and got my servers bosses on with Amazon whatever and got it fixed. So yes, when Amazon goes down it takes half the web with it.

can you call your server bosses and have them sort this out?

I was on the phone with them for an hour this morning. Right now I'm pulling off my neighbor's ATT as it is slightly better than mine at the moment. And yes, they gave me permission to use their Internet when mine goes out. They won't do anything till enough people call in. That last time I just lucked out and had service guys who stuck with it until it got fixed. The closer to 5 pm it got the more people called in. I don't know how they figured out it was Amazon except the guy's wife couldn't shop.
