Which is why I suggested she start with Eccleston. He doesn't get enough love and I agree that starting with The Eleventh Hour is skipping too much (not to mention there are parts of that episode that are pretty darn campy imo so I don't get people's aversion to the campy parts of the 2005 episodes).
Campy is what campy does. I don't remember Dr. Who being mean or nasty campy. The X Files turned a lot of people off with their Peacock epi. That was nasty campy.

No, no. You did not say too much. DW fucking rocks. There are some legitimately terrifying episodes, and there are some legitimately soul-crushing episodes that, if you don't like crying in front of others, you should probably watch alone. All of this talk made me queue all of the episodes on Netflix because I want to rewatch all of them. And catch up, since I fell behind. It's just the best show ever.
The cool thing, if you like this sort of thing, is the sets on the older Dr. Who. They look like someone put them together with cardboard literally. Far difference from the high tech of today.

Thank you for being so kind about my rambling. All of my IRL friends (except my adopted Ma and roommate) give me weird looks when I start talking about Who, because I get so geeky about it.

Nah, no mean or nasty campy at all. Also, now you have me wondering if I'm the only person who liked the X-Files "Home" episode. Then again, I was intrigued by its connection to real-life events and have been a die-hard X-Files fan since adolescence. It was pretty gruesome, that I will definitely admit.
Yessss! No waiting. Amazon has DW for streaming. :D Well... I know what I'm doing with the rest of my day now.

Yay! I'll be riding along with you in a different timeline, as my roommate saw this gif and asked if I wanted to get into a DW binge in preparation for the next season in April. :D

It was a good epi for what it was. It wasn't long after that if memory serves that a real life story of a woman in a box came to light. That was thing that bothered me about the X Files. There was something real in all of them. Once they did one on some ancient trees in the US where if anyone went into the forest of them they were attacked by bugs or something. I was reading the little blurbs in the newspaper not long after that one and sure enough there are trees that fit that description in the Northwest. I don't know about the bugs though. But the forest is so ancient and the trees so old that I don't think humans venture too far into the area.
