I like history-ish stuff (Hardcore History, mostly) and storytelling (big fan of Snap Judgement). I'd like to get more into long-form storytelling (I listened to Welcome to Nightvale for a while), but I'm a little overwhelmed by the sheer size of some of them - want to make sure they're worth it before investing lots of time! And of course the more well known NPR-type casts (TAL, Radiolab, Freakonomics, etc). I probably go for the more "produced" stuff (if that's the right word) than the "people sitting around a table having a conversation" style.

Sure but people just listed a bunch of cheaper ones with equivalent sound quality, unless you're out and about enough to want noise canceling. Otherwise you're spending an extra $100-$250 for no sound improvement.

Bose aren't bad headphones per se, you're just paying way more than you otherwise would for the brand name. You can get better headphones for cheaper, unless you absolutely need active noise-canceling, because they're the leader in that.
