there is just not really a rhyme or reason to why mturk gives out masters. you're excluding a lot of really good workers because amazon doesn't even know how mturk works.

Ok. so what would you say is the best way of ensuring good quality responses? Without the Master qual, we've had some instances where someone just goes through quickly, submitting junk responses. We obviously do our own QA to catch these, but it just wastes time blocking them and re-posting the HITs they did.

i would advise setting up a paid qualification test and granting qualifications to people who pass, then using that qualification to restrict who can do your HITs

because the requester is clearly soliciting feedback about how to improve their HITs. what's the problem with discussing?

I think if you're getting the responses you want with masters you could keep it that way. Or use a qual test, or higher approval rate/hits approved qualification.

Qual test is your best bet but it takes more work.

I would consider setting up a qualification test or qualification HIT to ensure quality responses, which I think is the superior way to use mturk since it's specific to the tasks and requirements of the requester. I don't have Masters and consider myself to be a good worker (99.9% approval etc), but I honestly don't blame you either for using the Masters qual if you're having good results that way.

Sure! Kiddo is finally showing attachment to stuffed animals. Right now he has Puppy and Kitty that he has to sleep with every night, and he enjoys taking Puppy to the grocery store with us. Not sure why Kitty doesn't get to go.

Sure! Kiddo is finally showing attachment to stuffed animals. Right now he has Puppy and Kitty that he has to sleep with every night, and he enjoys taking Puppy to the grocery store with us. Not sure why Kitty doesn't get to go.

I have so many stuffed animals in the van @catnapped
