so TO is basically gone and now if we want this info we have to pay for it? just like ATT, netflix, amazon prime, nbc, cbs, showtime and whoever else wants a piece of a tiny pie. guess that's what happens when the grants dry up.
TO isn't going anywhere as far as I know.
In fairness, unlike any of those services, using TV (correctly) should increase the net amount of money in your pocket at the end of the day. And if it doesn't then there is no need to pay for it so it shouldn't really affect much.
TV has never at any point had grant funding (I wish lol, wouldn't need to fuss w/ any of this if that were the case). Every expense has come directly out of my (or other workers) pockets. Its wonderful that the citizens of California have opted to pay for TO to exist, unfortunately as a fellow Turker I can't really do the same anymore for TV
At least not without abandoning it to rot, which I'd strongly prefer not to do.
well it says my key's not functional so I guess I won't be paying for something that doesn't work.
This 100% should not happen, the auth keys aren't even being checked by the server at the moment so it doesn't disrupt folk's day needlessly :o
Was it when you pasted it into the box? The script will check the key length itself to make sure it was copied correctly, but the script will still function w/o it until February 1st (at least).
Is anyone using HIT Forker? Most HITs are grey so it ends up being too hard to filter out the bad HITs. How do you put the HITs in Panda Crazy if you use HIT Finder (MTS)?
Forker will be updated this evening for the new TV API, at which point should look much more like this:
Which is almost the entire point of the new API
Being able to deliver the data reliably instead of using stale caching mechanisms that end up making the scripts look bad (or non-responsive at all, which is what you get w/ Scraper if you use TO's data during business hours M-F). MTS will hopefully get the same treatment (actually, MTS would be a much larger upgrade overall since it covers more than Forker does).
As far as TV goes, is there a way to have it not post on their daily thread? I hit 'submit only' instead of submit & share on the one and only review I ever left and it still posted afaik.
I believe it will post your first few because you're new and that's a way to make sure you're using it correctly and data quality is good (for example, a lot of people rate communication automatically, even when they have not communicated with the requester). I cannot remember how many it takes for that to stop happening, but it will stop happening.
What
@tricker said (help I can't type fast enough!). It should, however, do it a lot less than it used to. I made a lot of the "known" problem checks internal to the server so there is no need for randoms to be tagging you whining about misclicking a button. By mid-February it'll stop doing it completely since its not very intuitive & its a bit of a "rude" way to crowdsource the data quality checks lol, but its always kinda "worked" since I can't see everything, sorry
