gotta watch out for that payroll tax. its the sick twist. if you're "employeed" the employer pays half of that. if you are self employed, you are the employer of you, so you pay all of it.
OTOH, you get to deduct half of it so it isn't all screwing. EDIT: 15.3 percent unless the tax law has changed for 2019 on that but at least that qualifies you for social security earned quarters so it helps you with social security if it's still around when you get old enough.
Yeah I was expecting the refund to disappear. Just wasn't ready for the part where I owed money.
you may even have the priviledge to have to send in estimated taxes so the government gets money from you 4 times a year instead of you sending in money once a year and potentially earning a penalty for too little "withholding". If calculated right, it means your refund or tax due from your self-employment activity will be about zero. I only got a 2 buck refund last year from the govt and you betcha I made them send me a check! :sunglasses:

I hate this because my main job is a home business that is very seasonal, and 1 of those payments is always about when out of money before the next seasonal income boost hits and end up putting it on credit card and then just never seem to get it paid off. Sometimes it is two payments on the card because one of those quarterly payments hits same time as property tax. Just sigh. Feel like cannot get ahead a lot of the time. Which is why I am on mTurk trying to make a bit extra to make sure we don't go under on the months our income is like $50.
