Yeah. Bitcoin can't be mined with normal GPUs anymore but you can still use them to mine other coins. Farmers buy them up as soon as they come back in stock so it is really difficult to get your hands on a decent card. Cards that used to sell for 400-500 now sell for 900+. Ram prices have also been high for a while. Building your own computer is a lot more difficult so a lot of people are opting to buy preassembled machines. The benefit of this is that you get some components at a really good price( often the processor and graphics card) but the other parts are garbage (motherboard doesn't allow for expansion, power supply is limited, cheap components for the rest of the computer) so it has its benefits and downsides.

you could buy something that will turk just fine for ~400.

I bought a refurbished (Microsoft approved) business machine, a Dell Optiplex. It came with a cheap new keyboard and mouse. Cost was $245, free shipping from the refurbisher. Ordered thru Amazon with all gift cards. I got it expressly for Turking. I've used it with no problems for the past 4 years. A work horse. Granted it's not for gaming, but I don't play anything but casual games and rarely. Best computer I've ever used. It has certainly paid for itself.
