I bought a refurbished (Microsoft approved) business machine, a Dell Optiplex. It came with a cheap new keyboard and mouse. Cost was $245, free shipping from the refurbisher. Ordered thru Amazon with all gift cards. I got it expressly for Turking. I've used it with no problems for the past 4 years. A work horse. Granted it's not for gaming, but I don't play anything but casual games and rarely. Best computer I've ever used. It has certainly paid for itself.

I did this, but for low spec gaming. I needed a windows box to stick with my Racing Simulator rig, and I went with a refurb business model HP, from newegg. About $250, and I only swapped out the GFX card, with one I had from a previous build. It's lasted for 2 years running Assetto Corsa, and other SIMs with no problems. I use it some days for supplemental purposes, when my macbook isn't enough for turking.

I've never cared to keep up with the gpu prices until recently, or at least until someone I know dropped 5k on an MSI rig. 2 1080s, 64gb, RAID set up etc.. really curious what something like that would cost without those miner heathens. I felt a bit guilty dropping 1.5 on my msi but at least it was before the price increases started (or at the very least, got to the point they're at now).
