Random post but does anyone know anything about something called agoraphobia? I have an online friend that told me earlier today that he want's to start working on mturk because it is impossible for him to leave his home to look for work. I don't know what to suggest to him and think that if he continues to work online like he has been for the past 10 years than he might not ever reach his full potential. I feel really bad for him since I've known him for 5 years and did not know that he had this problem besides some anxiety he told me about.

Yes, I know about it. It's really serious and quite debilitating. Therapy can be helpful, but I would not advise telling him about reaching potential outside of the home, he is probably very aware. Hope that helps and I'm sorry if it sounded too harsh!

I overcame my agoraphobia after working on Mturk.
Sitting here on my computer made me want to go out and do literally anything else.

It's true no one is going to reach their full potential being on here but it's not going to make anything worse I don't think.
Though everyone is different.

I don't understand what you're asking
I'm trying to figure out how to help him. I thought that he had a really good job/career because he seems quite intelligent to me but told me that he has an over active imagination that can get him in trouble (caused him anxiety).

I just found out today that he's been living off of less than $5000 a year for the past 6+ years because he told me that he has anxiety attacks when far away from home because according to him his heart rate goes up and he starts thinking he is going to die. I'm looking for advice because I feel bad for him and because he is relatively young (he's only 30).

micky @micky
Thank you, I'll ask him if he get's therapy for it.

Brains are different and unique because of how different all of our dna is. So to use an example, on the social scale, there are 1% of people who are extreme extroverts who love company and being around others, they seem to get all their energy that way and cant bear the thought of being alone for even an hour. On the extreme opposite side of the spectrum, you have people who are deathly afraid of people, social interaction in general. For those people with the way their brain is wired, therapy might help mitigate some of the anxiety but theres also a chance therapy wont ever be able to help that person, in which case mturk is an incredible opportunity for that person. Once you get the mechanics down and really understand how this works you can make 300-400 a week by putting in some hard work. I feel like you can get by on that level of income if you are willing to relocate to a state thats not expensive.
