Random post but does anyone know anything about something called agoraphobia? I have an online friend that told me earlier today that he want's to start working on mturk because it is impossible for him to leave his home to look for work. I don't know what to suggest to him and think that if he continues to work online like he has been for the past 10 years than he might not ever reach his full potential. I feel really bad for him since I've known him for 5 years and did not know that he had this problem besides some anxiety he told me about.

Mental illness is so stigmatized. The fact that you are reaching out and learning something to help your friend is amazing. Your friend needs to get to a medical doctor and tell them about his problem if he hasn't already. Sometimes a medication and/or some talk therapy can do wonders for someone. If he's open to talking to you, gently ask if he has an advocate in his family or friends. He needs doctor appointments and a lawyer. If he's been working in the past and has social security credits. He could qualify for disability. But a person to help him go to appointments would be a great step forward. This is a hotline for mental help, 1-800-950-NAMI (6264).

Thank you, I appreciate your response and will look into talking to him more about this problem since he has told me recently that he has been getting depressed because it feels like his 20's passed him by due to this condition that I was unaware of all of these years.
