I gave up on them probably 7-8 years ago 'cept for getting one in 2015 to talk to @Princess Gina Marie while we were still in a LDR.

I'd guess it's because you're using Coke out of a can/bottle as opposed to fountain cokes.

Either your ratios are off or they are using fountain soda which can sometimes be sweeter.

next time at the bar, when you order a whiskey and coke, ask them to add an ounce of seltzer so it tastes like the crappy ones you make at home.

then when you get used to it, the home made ones will be acceptable
