Wow, there was some really bad parenting around here.

when I was growing up they didn't talk about parenting like they do now with all the helicoptering, moms taxis, playdates and what nots. Kids woke up and went outside and played and maybe came back at dark, maybe not if they were camping out somewhere. You did bad, parents beat your ass and you did better. You didn't eat what was on the plate, then you went hungry. You twisted an ankle, you walked it off. we lived fine and grew up fine.

there is tough and their is dangerous. There are enough dead people around to give credence to the notion that gangsters are dangerous. Of course these days, i think the mob is more into high level crime and the shit is done by the street gangs.

I saw that video - I think from a link in Atlantic Monthly? They had a great article on letting kids explore. My daughter has quite a bit of freedom, but nothing like what I had as a kid. It's just not possible anymore.........
