I feel like if there was a minimum wage most of the work would just disappear. In theory I'm for it, as there's always someone willing to do work for less than you and that causes a race to the bottom, especially when turk is open to other countries with a lower standard of wages. But at the same time, it seems like a lot of this work would seem less necessary to the requesters if it suddenly cost more.
i swear, probably at least a quarter of the tasks I do have definite and exact answers, and I'm ...graded on it.

I like getting paid for it, but often times I wonder just what the point is, when there are specific and exact answers.
political surveys? I get it, answers vary.
psychological surveys? I get it, answers vary.
math surveys?
1+2=3, all day, every day.

Perhaps, but I think we're on a lot shakier ground in terms of the value of our work. How much of this has to get done, and how much just gets done because it's currently cheap?
what do you mean how much of this has to get done

If Ibotta doesn't get their millions of receipts verified at a penny each, the United Nations will crumble

Someone should also tell /r/HWTF to quit it with the $6/hr rule while we're talking about "unionizing." I know a lot of people learn about mturk through reddit and use this guideline at first.
I've tried, numerous times. At one point, they agreed to remove it and not put in any specific amount. Another time, they said they'd insert text about how not everyone agrees about $6/hour. But they've never followed up on either of these agreements, and I can only do so much trying to convince only to be met with no response.

We haven't had a good rant about that place in awhile. I think it's time. The only issue is that place keeps workers from finding better ways to work on the hits most of us like to work on which means less competition for us.

I hope it fucking does. Commuting in and out of the city turns into shit during the assembly.

Please be respectful of other forums/worker sites even if you/we disagree with their policies.

I would think that doing minimum 10 cent a minute hits would be directly self serving. A year and a half ago I tried every hit and did a lot of penny hits and I never made any good money until I started turning my nose up to those hits. Now I will not even do a penny hit, unless they put up 20000 Ci's or something like that.
Every act you make every single day of your life is self serving in one way or another... even if it is just to make you feel good or see someone smile.
That said, it's been shown over the course of history that the function technology serves in the work place is to move the work from skilled hands to unskilled hands and thus lower both the barrier of entry as well as the wage paid for that work. Mturk is one such technology... and it is by far at the extreme end of cost efficient.

To take that "allegory" to it's fullest as you've become more skilled the amount of work you are willing to do lessens, the wages paid on hits you like have been getting lower... and the penny hits you don't do anymore are being completed by newer less skilled turkers and the desperate. We've even seen workers hamming the shit out of batches that didn't pay at all... justifications for the behavior abounded.
Edit: We can blame some of that on more technology being created and made available to the less skilled workers... ie scripts.

It would be nice to have a company who doesn't see the service and its workers as a magical piggy bank. The lameduck stewardship of mtrak is half the problem, and all bad practices from the workforce comes after. 'cuz sometimes you hafta eat.
An argument for socialism? They say it will inevitably bloom from the corpse of capitalism.
