Yeah. I went a little far there. Feel free to delete it. To make it clear I have nothing against the workers there. I apologize if it was taken that way. I started there too. When workers move on to forums like this I try to be as helpful as I can. Just as you were for me. My only issue is the group perception there that $6/h is the end all and be all of turking. That perception needs to change. I'm not sure I'm explaining my thoughts on it right, but like I said; no ill will meant.

Every act you make every single day of your life is self serving in one way or another... even if it is just to make you feel good or see someone smile.
That said, it's been shown over the course of history that the function technology serves in the work place is to move the work from skilled hands to unskilled hands and thus lower both the barrier of entry as well as the wage paid for that work. Mturk is one such technology... and it is by far at the extreme end of cost efficient.

To take that "allegory" to it's fullest as you've become more skilled the amount of work you are willing to do lessens, the wages paid on hits you like have been getting lower... and the penny hits you don't do anymore are being completed by newer less skilled turkers and the desperate. We've even seen workers hamming the shit out of batches that didn't pay at all... justifications for the behavior abounded.


An argument for socialism? They say it will inevitably bloom from the corpse of capitalism.

A system like that will eventually collapse in on itself. If you pay lower wages, you have less people buying your products and if you put machines in to do all the labor in making your products, you have to hope that someone else will take up the slack for you and hire the workers that you did not, so they can buy the products your machines make. Then your competitors do the same thing, because your products are cheaper than theirs. Eventually you will run out of a good pool of buyers for your product, because no one has a job. This unfortunately seems to be the direction this world is heading in.

I've tried, numerous times. At one point, they agreed to remove it and not put in any specific amount. Another time, they said they'd insert text about how not everyone agrees about $6/hour. But they've never followed up on either of these agreements, and I can only do so much trying to convince only to be met with no response.

I just took a little cruise over there and read the FAQ. "A generally accepted rule of thumb on this subreddit is a minimum of $.10/minute ($6/hr). HITs below that threshold have a tendency to get downvoted, but there are no money/time restrictions on what can be posted." It seems your suggestion was taken seriously.

Then your competitors do the same thing, because your products are cheaper than theirs. Eventually you will run out of a good pool of buyers for your product, because no one has a job. This unfortunately seems to be the direction this world is heading in.

Automation is going to cause some fun times over the next couple decades. There's no way the current system continues to work when 40%+ of the population is unemployed because of robots being cheaper.
