I would look for one with an I5 with higher clock speeds(but not needed just my preference)
That's a good thought, but I'd rather add it myself to cut down on the premium the mfg charges. I bought a small 120gb last week for a laptop I was hoping to save, but it just didn't help. It's done, so time for a new one.

Yep. Spent $850 on a Dell Inspiron 17 (7000 Series) and already had to replace the hardrive once after 5 months.
The one in my post has 20% off so it brings it down to 577. Does that change your thoughts?
I'd love to get an ASUS if I buy something. I like the accidental warranty they give, and the build quality is strong...the price though.

If she's just starting out ... look into hp. They run sales all the time. We have been using hp lappys for the past decade. Here's a very decent lappy at $260.
