I live in Fort Myers, FL... there is plenty of affordable housing that's not literally across the street from the entrance of a school! That's BS! I do appreciate you trying to help answer my question, and I do understand what you're saying by there are a few that got the label unjustly... as parent and a teacher it infuriates me to know that a person with that label lives where he does. Like to the point I'm seriously thinking about contacting people and questioning it!
I understand, and as a parent of three daughters, it upsets me too. But when I don't understand something I try to understand it.
As for affordable, the biggest issue with sex offenders is finding work. So, zones around schools usually have to have places that are variable rent based on income because, like those with felonies, it is hard for them to find work. Those that do, rarely find work that pays enough to make a substantial wage.
So, areas around schools either have to have housing projects with adequate available work nearby or have to have an average rent cost for an apartment that would be affordable.

This was a strong basis for the paper I wrote in college. It kinda helps to understand what I am trying to say.
Not saying you shouldn't be outraged, but maybe you should say something as well. This paper explains that because of the laws excluding offenders from housing, many will report fake addresses and then live elsewhere. Around where I live, it wouldn't be difficult with all the abandoned houses nearby me.
