What Gina googled said it had to be one of ours though that could be wrong....or it could vary from state to state.

I can't believe that. I just looked it up and yes, they are required to use the Mother's last name if unmarried and the father's if married. That is so traditional.
I have had kids in Arizona and North Carolina and I could name them whatever in the hell I wanted to
