I performed surgery on mine, I put wire in his arms and legs, so he can stand and pose. Even the bigger kids get into figuring out where he is, and what he has done. It's simple family fun, we don't really do the he's watching stuff.
I kind of want to do it now that kiddo might be old enough to understand, but I'm worried it'll scare him lol

I got lucky. I got an in home daycare with someone I had known for years. She is still a dear friend to this day. Not all daycare is bad :) And not really defeats the purpose...kids are in school a lot of their lives and parents are still highly involved (well, at least I am highly involved, maybe all parents aren't?).

I'm probably a little over-reacty though when it's even remotely implied putting your kid in daycare is somehow not good parenting. (which, I know you were not implying!!) Doing daycare was my only choice if I wanted my son as I deliberately got pregnant with him knowing I would be a single mom. :)
A loving and involved parent is always what's most important! :highfive:
Actually, because daycare/school have become such the norm, I feel like stay at home parents/kids are almost at a disadvantage. Example: when I enrolled my kids in tumbling (under 2, just for fun) the instructors assumed they already knew how to line up, raise their hands, and take turns. My kids had never been in an organized group before like that. I mean, they're not even 2! Kids are starting Kindergarten with way more social/emotional skills than they used to because they've had daycare and preschool 3/4 beforehand and interactions with other kids. I have to make forced effort to enroll my kids in camps/activities and get them in public and around other people so they learn the "rules." I'm still trying to teach them not to tell their life story to everyone they meet
We don't do Santa and stuff. It's lying to kids. I know it's the norm, and it prepares them for a lifetime of being lied to by the government... but I ain't gonna do it :p
(Elf on the Shelf is creepy authoritarian Big Brother bullshit to me... o.0 But I'm sure you figured I'd think that :p )
We don't either. Easter Bunny, Santa, etc. I make sure they know what they are, so they're not confused, but we don't oblige. They always look really strangely at someone when a stranger in the store asks "did Santa come to your house?" They look at me like "is this lady an idiot?"

There are a few different elves you can use, test it with a cheap one and turn it into a hunt. I don't have issues getting the kids up, even the teens during elf season.

He (His name is Howard, they took a vote) once rounded up all the drow elves from the Warhammer 40k game and led a mutiny on the shopkins. There was a trebuchet and everything.

Fun times!

My older ones (b/c we've always done the history-part of Jewish holidays b/c of ethnicity/family history, not religious reasons...) usually tell them "Not everyone is Christian"
But I ALSO teach them/make sure they know not to ruin the Holidays of kids that aren't Jewish/and do Santa and stuff b/c it's fun for them, and that is between them and their parents. :)
I mean, we're a bunch of Earth/heavenly body worshiping heathens, so who the hell are we to judge beliefs? :D  I'm a firm believer of minding ya damn business.

I'm a bit salty now that I found out other people only have 2 questions while I've always had 5..
I'm still pissy that my answers were longer/more detailed than their examples.

(I had four, if it makes you feel slightly better....)

When I was 8, I won one of those contests where you had to count the amount of M&Ms in a mason jar.

I won the jar (and diabetes.)
:o how many were there? and how close did you get?

yup, I'm done with 'em for exactly this reason.

I don't remember exactly. Somewhere in the range of like 300. And they didn't tell me how close I got - they were all like, "here kid, knock yourself out"
