That's not funny. We had high winds one day about a week ago only they weren't on the ground so much as high up. My neighbor had baby squirrels get blown out of their nest. I walked out the door to take a break and found the old orange feral cat eating one on my porch. I thought for sure that would give me nightmares. Neighbor was out and I said something about Buster making lunch out of a rodent and then she told me what happened. That she had taken two in the house. Later she said her husband knew of the local wildlife hospital so one squirrel survived, one didn't and she took the surviving one to the hospital. They already had a group from another incident that day there and they put them all together.

that's sad we had some high winds when summer first started and I went for a walk one day...say 3 itty bitty baby birds that had been blown out of their nest/eggs

Mama squirrel was running along the power line calling for them. I felt sorry for her. When the birds get hung up with the cats I'll take them away providing the cats are still in the play stage, beyond that after they inflict their bite it's too late. Then I'll move them somewhere away from the cats and mama bird will be following me. They usually get caught by the cats when they are pushed out to learn to fly. But the squirrels couldn't be given back to mom because the nest was very high up in the tree.
