Or another thing you could try is opening up task explorer and seeing if there are instances of chrome.exe or chromeupdater(not sure of the excact name) and killing those processes

That's one of the things recommended on the advice sites and then rebooting. I've had to go through those steps several times before it will open again.

Also alot of programs have a repair function so before you uninstall chrome I would download the installer and run it and see if it lets your repair it
