The only possible use a bed skirt can have is to conceal the underside of the bed, so, you know, just anything could be hiding under there......sleep tight.........everybody looks under their bed.

When I was a youngin', I just thought that bed skirts were what you had to have. I haven't had one since I've been an adult.
