I'll be credit card debt free in September. It is my goal overall to be debt free, but my ex leaving me hitched those plans, since I have a car loan out now. We will see. If I can keep up with turking on top of my job even if I get raises, I could maybe think about paying my car off quickly.

A mortgage is another ball field I question though. But life goals is to be debt free, maybe minus a house payment.

Your mom is smart. I don't know if I would have been responsible at 18 with a credit card but I definitely think this a good idea for my son. I'm hoping to teach him budgeting tools and hopefully he'll actually use them and not blow me off lol

@Catfish has the good idea as well to do the joint one, a little more accountability. I hardly used mine when I was in college and did pay off in full every month. however, overall I was a pretty responsible kid, and I lived at home during college.

I don't have any debt, but I ruined my credit at an early age so I just got used to not having any credit cards. I also only ever went to community college, so I didn't have any student debt. I think the only thing that I ever really owed money on was my car and I paid that off several years ago.

i got 50 grand in student loan debt and 6 grand in credit cards. as long as i make those minimum payments, my credit score stays at 700 and companies still think I'm responsible.

Having moved from the UK where my credit rating was excellent, to the US where my credit rating is totally non-existant, it's a bit of a shock. And when I say it;s non-existant, it is below the lowest number. It's blank. Bah!

i got a credit card when i was 18 and dumb, screwed my credit. but its off my report now so at age 36, i just got a new credit card. i know how quickly they can become toxic.

no car, no student loans.
i don't have any debt, but i don't have any savings either.
