Need to make more turking $$$ to buy a new monitor (and/or faster and not dying computer...) but would make more turking $$$ with those items.
Balls.
After I started turking first thing I bought was a better system. Ate terrible and spent as little as I could for months.

Multiple monitors with all my scripts on them.
How many monitors do you use? I have two and I can make about $40-70 depending on how motivated I am. When I first started with one monitor, I could make about $30 and that was with getting about $15 from Zoltars in the morning.

I believe it was Turkcheck who added ads at the end of surveys so they probably got butthurt about that.
That makes perfect sense. We can't have pesky 3rd party tools getting monetized and competing with mTurk.

It reminds me a little of a time a few years back when some game developers remade Streets of Rage from scratch as a free fan made game and apparently received permission from Sega to do so. Once the game came out, Sega demanded that it be removed from the internet.

My thinking is that Sega probably thought it was going to be some crappy-looking game but when they saw it, they saw dollar signs that they would not be able to capitalize on so they hit the developers with the classic cease and desist and "we have to protect our intellectual property" drivel.

I'm on a slightly newer mac than you are, with a similar setup of using a TV for my display. One word of advice having dealt with similar frustrations, is to install a fan control application, such as SMC Fan Control. I run SMC on my Mac and it allows me to adjust when the fans will run and at what rpm they run. OSX does a decent job, but it can't predict what you'll be doing on the computer as well as you may be able to.

I keep my default fan speed about 1000rpm higher than OSX usually runs the fans, and I occasionally switch to my High speed preset, with the fans just below max RPM. This helps me keep the temps in my mac low enough that I never run into temp based glitches, etc, any longer. Also, it never hurts to tear it apart and give things a good through cleaning, or at the very least, vacuum out the vents that are accessible. :)

Sounds like you could use a little duct tape
my Mac Mini developed a nasty crash habit trying to run 2 monitors and a couple windows running scripts...it was burning up and shutting down but now that I put a fan control app on it that revs up when it hits a certain temp it's been much better.....

Only two but I'm thinking about three.
But if I get three that means I have to remove some collectibles from my desk (namely my giant as fuck Rowdy Roddy Piper statue) and I'm not sure I'm ready for that.

Didn't that exact same thing happen with Retro City Rampage?
I believe it was an 8-bit remake for GTA 3 at first and then Rockstar got all butthurt.

Worked out for the best though because Retro City Rampage is fun as fuck.

Really was a game changer for me.
Hate that I put it off for so long.
I just redid the desk area in my living room. It used to be my desk, but it has been assumed by the child. In redoing it I have created a lot more space. As I was finishing up the remodel, I thought to myself while staring at the back of the child playing Fortnite because he TOTALLY did not move so I could accomplish this more easily, "In four years, when you leave for college, this is mine again. And now I will have room for multiple monitors so I can finally turk on more than just a 15" laptop screen." Wish I could add more now. Was thinking of those "extension" monitors for laptops but then wondered if that would even pay for itself.

I've always run SMC fan control, but only recently has it been such a necessity for me. I started playing GTA 3 after turk at night, and my mac was burning up and glitching after an hour or two of gameplay. It's been almost a month now before my temps have risen above 55 degrees C.
