Growing up in central Texas, we always carried several gallons of water in the car, for when the radiator got too hot....or we did. We had no air conditioning, of course....also assorted spare parts for self repairs, 'cause local garages in the middle of no wheres Texas never had the needed parts....and remember, there was no cell service 'cause there were NO CELL PHONES.

yep, I did the gallons of water as well, because sometimes I would be on a stretch of Dixie Highway that the nearest gas station or rest stop would be 50-75 miles apart
